Gum Contouring
Gummy Smile Treatment
Not all of us have the same gum line when we smile or talk. Sometimes the gums are longer and it may bother us that they look too much when laughing or talking. Gum lines are corrected by applying gum contouring treatment to our patients with excessively visible gums.

What Is Gummy Smile? (Treatment Options, Procedure, Cost)
When the gums appear more than they should when smiling, it is called a gummy smile. The appearance of the gums more than 2 mm when smiling or talking can bother us aesthetically. When the gums appear too much, it causes our teeth to appear short. Gummy smile treatment is a simple procedure. Treatment options are;
Laser Gum Contouring (Shorten Gums With Laser)
Lengthening the tooth length is the process of shaping the gums to make the teeth more visible, to lift the gum tissue or to pull the gum line to higher places. This process, which is carried out by a gum disease specialist, is carried out in two stages. The first is the gingivectomy method. In this method, excess gingival tissue is removed by surgical intervention. In the second method, bone surgery, the excess bone is removed and the jawbone is shaped.
In the process of contouring the gingival level using a laser, first of all, your gums are numbed. With a state-of-the-art laser, the elongated and distorted parts of your gums are shaped. This is a simple process that takes an average of half an hour. There is no stitching and no bleeding after the procedure.
Botox Injections For Gummy Smile
Sometimes our upper lip muscles are overworked and pull the upper lip higher than it should. In this case, our gums appear too much. Botox is injected into the muscles that pull the upper lip up and this problem is resolved.
When botulinum toxin (Botox) injection is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is a method used to correct lines or wrinkles on the face. Botox injection, which is also used in these procedures, can be used in the treatment of dental Gummy Smile. Gum is visible when smiling. Botox injection is a method used in cases where gingiva appears while smiling due to hyperactive lip muscles. Small doses of Botox injection can be injected to limit excessive contraction of the upper lip muscles and to prevent the appearance of the gums when smiling. This method usually takes effect between 3 months and 6 months. For this reason, it is generally recommended to be repeated every 6 months. For this treatment, you can apply to dentists or specialists trained in this direction. Do not touch the area where Botulinum Toxin was injected for approximately 4 hours after the injection. Contacting that area before it is fully seated can lead to deterioration. Various side effects such as redness, swelling or bruising may occur after the injection. However, these side effects are not uncommon.

Laser Gum Contouring After Care (Recovery Time)
There are methods that will facilitate the healing of your gums after gingival contouring.
- Proper Oral Care; Oral care is of great importance after gingival contouring treatment. Teeth and gums should be brushed 2 times a day with a soft-bristled brush. The use of dental floss should not be neglected. Regular rinsing with an alcohol-free mouthwash (salt water is also fine) is recommended. Keeping the gums clean is very important for the healing process.
- Foods; After gum contouring treatment, you should stay away from spicy and hard, crunchy foods. Such foods can cause pain in the gums during the healing process. Preferring soft foods allows you to have a more comfortable healing process. Also, consuming very hot tea or coffee can cause pain in your gums.
